About
Farnaz Farahdel
Visual artist · Documentary creator & director · Based in Finland

Her practice explores migration, belonging, identity, emotion and the distance between inner experience and outward identity.
Working across painting, photography and moving image, Farnaz Farahdel is interested in how memory and personal experience become visible through form, place, gesture, conversation and silence.
She does not work from one fixed subject. Each work begins with its own question, image or feeling and finds the form it needs. Some works are personal and narrative; others grow from observation, material, colour or experiment.
Her documentary practice is intimate and observational rather than explanatory. The camera remains attentive to faces, gestures, pauses, environments and small details, allowing meaning to emerge through what is said, what is seen and what is left unsaid.
I am drawn to what lies beneath the surface. When the world feels too heavy, I retreat into painting; when I meet people or enter a quiet space, I search for the same thing — the stories, pain, joy and traces that remain after the noise has faded. Through colour, conversation and the lens, I try to stay close to those hidden layers, where silence and light begin to speak.
